This section will present feature-length articles on the history of Irish chess. The articles are in the form of pdf files. Where the text of these articles contains game-scores, these can also be played through separately in a ChessBase viewer at my Irish Chess Games website.

Ireland played Wales in a friendly 20 person per side team chess match back in the early 1990s (circa 1991), does anyone have the scores from that match by any chance?

    • There were in fact two Ireland -v Wales matches in the early 1990s. The first match over 31 boards was in Dublin and the second over 45 boards in Cardiff. The home team was victorious each time. I have the full board by board results for the Dublin match. I will gather the details together and post something soon in the Chronology section. It’s about time I expanded that section anyway!
