Colm Daly has probably been the most prolific tournament winner in the last 30 years in Irish chess. One omission from his record of tournament successes had been the Mulcahy Memorial but he has now put that right. Competing in the event for the first time since its revival in 2003, Daly won the 2015 edition with 5.5 points out of 6. Full standings have been added to the Mulcahy page.
One point of interest I noted in the tournament publicity is that the 2015 edition was advertised as the 47th Mulcahy Memorial. As the tournament was first played in 1969, this allows for this annual tournament to have been played 47 times – however because of its disappearance from the calendar for a number of years after the 26th edition in 1994, the 2015 renewal was in fact only the 38th time the Mulcahy Memorial has actually taken place.
